Children and Youth

Children’s Sunday School

Mission Hills UCC believes that, just like adults, children in our congregation are on a spiritual journey. Children begin the service in the sanctuary with their families and the entire congregation, then go upstairs for Sunday school class following the “Children’s Message.”

In Sunday school, we use a Workshop Rotation Model to match the wide array of interests and learning styles represented by our diverse group of children. This curriculum helps to form their faith and enrich their spiritual lives by spending more time on fewer stories. Instead of learning a new Bible story each week, the Workshop Rotation Model spends 4-5 weeks on the same Bible story with the children participating in different activities each week. Activities include art, cooking projects, science, music, drama, puppets, and even technology. As a result, the children will gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the relevance of that scripture in our lives. They will also get to know the many volunteers who serve the ministry through teaching.

We also offer a Big Steps Nursery for children 3 years and younger.

Youth Group

Mission Hills UCC has a healthy Youth Group for teenagers in 7th through 12th grade.

On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, Youth Group members are encouraged to attend worship with their families. Youth then stay for community service projects, spiritual development, and social activities after church in the church courtyard.

On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month Youth Group is held during worship; Youth move from the sanctuary to the church courtyard following “Children’s Message.”

On the 3rd Sunday of every month, Youth Group members lead worship serve as liturgists, ushers, musicians, and singers.

MHUCC Youth Group - 11-28-21 - Just in Time for Foster Youth gift bags

The MHUCC Youth Group prepared 100 gift bags to be given to Just in Time for Foster Youth at their 2021 holiday event

We included cozy socks, candles, chapstick, a mug, tea bags, hot cocoa packets, and individually wrapped goodies – all packaged in a hand-decorated holiday bag. We hope these gift bags will bring those who receive them comfort & joy.

While putting the bags together at our Thanksgiving event we reflected upon the importance of sharing our blessings.
