Our Youth Group had the opportunity to visit the Buddhist Temple of San Diego. Kaytee Sumida, Minister’s Assistant, explained the historical roots of Shin Buddhism and some of the tenants of the Buddhist faith. We had the opportunity to attend a Dharma Service, where we chanted in Sino-Japanese and heard a Dharma talk about the benefits to seeing the world with fresh eyes, perhaps like a tourist (several members of the congregation are traveling to Japan this week to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Jodo Shinshu Tradition and are planning to visit several historic sites). Kaytee then gave us a tour of the beautiful altar area.
