Community Partners

Jesus said, “When you served those often ignored, you served me.” We follow Jesus’ teachings by taking action in the communities where we live, work, and play to help all God’s creation thrive.

Casas de Luz

MHUCC has sent numerous teams of youth and adults to Tijuana over the years with Casas de Luz, most recently in February 2024. A team leaves from the church on Saturday morning, crosses into Mexico, and by Sunday afternoon, has built an entire house for a family. You can join us next time!

Uptown Community Service Center

The Uptown Community Service Center provides vital services to people who are homeless, primarily in the Balboa Park area.

Started in 1984 by MHUCC and several other area churches, services are offered to all without discrimination and regardless of religious affiliation, to help them become self-supporting members of our community.

Volunteers help to distribute food, clothing, hygiene kits, and mail and assist clients in filling out documents and using computers. Training will be provided.

Just in Time for Foster Youth

We are proud to support the wonderful young adults at Just in Time as they transition out of the foster care system. MHUCC contributed $100,000 during our last capital campaign and ongoing support by hosting events and many volunteers for programs including My First Home.

Monarch School

We have a relationship with the Monarch School. We periodically provide materials at their request to support their students such as coats and school supplies.

Special Delivery San Diego

Help is needed to deliver meals or sort food in partnership with Special Delivery San Diego. Food is sorted in the mornings and meal delivery takes place in the late afternoons.

Knitting 2 Give

MHUCC is happy to be part of the Knitting4Peace network, which consists of individuals dedicated to crafting hope, healing, and peace one stitch at a time. Shawls, blankets, scarves, caps, and dolls are created for individuals and families in global areas of conflict.

You don’t have to know how to knit, crochet, or sew, or even be a woman, to be a part of this group – just a willingness to help. Joan would be happy to teach anyone interested how to knit – so don’t let a lack of experience stop you. Knitting 2 Give meets the 1st Friday of the month from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at the church and new members are always welcome.
