What We Believe

At Mission Hills UCC, our Children & Families Ministry is all about nurturing faith, fostering belonging, and supporting families on their spiritual journey.

Our goal is to help children grow in their relationship with God in a safe, welcoming environment—one where they can explore their faith, build meaningful relationships, and experience the love of a church that truly cares.

We believe that faith formation begins at home, and we are committed to partnering with parents every step of the way. That means:

• Building trust and open communication

• Offering resources and encouragement to support faith conversations at home

• Inviting families to be active participants in faith-based activities and decisions

This partnership ensures families are not bystanders, but collaborators in a shared spiritual journey—one that begins in the heart of the home and extends into the life of the church.

Our guiding scripture reminds us:

“Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their lives.” Proverbs 22:6 Good News Translation

We take this calling seriously. We strive to love, guide, and teach our children with intentionality, planting seeds of faith that will grow into wisdom, purpose, and resilience throughout their lives. The values they learn today shape how they live tomorrow—with integrity, compassion, and a heart aligned with God’s love.

Sunday School

“Let the little children come to me... for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” —Matthew 19:14

At Mission Hills UCC, we believe children are on their own meaningful spiritual journey—just like adults. Each Sunday, children begin worship in the sanctuary with their families and the full congregation. After the “Children’s Message,” they head upstairs for Sunday school.

Our Sunday school uses the Workshop Rotation Model, designed to support diverse interests and learning styles. Instead of a new story each week, we spend 4–5 weeks exploring one Bible story through different hands-on activities like art, cooking, science, music, drama, puppetry, and technology. This approach helps children form a deeper connection to scripture and see its relevance in their lives—while also building relationships with our dedicated volunteer teachers.

We also offer a Big Steps Nursery for children ages 3 and under.
