Honoring a Legacy of Caring

by | Sep 22, 2026

The Material Aid Sewing Group was established in 1992 as part of the Women’s Fellowship at MHUCC.  To join the group, interested parties had to pass a test to get their Sewing Machine Driver’s License.

The group made clothes for babies and donated them to UCSD Medical Center.  Lap quilts went to Edgemoor Skilled Nursing and San Diego Hospice.  Over 200 lap quilts were donated and greatly appreciated.

Anne Sarsfield and Barbara Wiggins were driving forces and Marla McBride became the coordinator when Anne died.  Monthly meetings were suspended during Covid and did not return.

Last month Barbara Wiggins took several boxes of fabric to the Assistance League Resale Store.  Pastor Courtney will give what quilts are left to people in hospice care.  And Marla will put out Christmas ones for donations along her with lighted trees.

Material Aid has come to a graceful conclusion.  Thank you to everyone and their generous, caring hearts.
