Lent/Easter Events

Contemplative Service - Into Stillness-  Lent is a time for reflection and introspection, a time to be still and prepare as we deepen in our spiritual journey.  We will offer several opportunities for worship and study to guide you during this holy season.  In addition, a Contemplative Service – “Into Stillness” is offered each Sunday evening at 7 p.m. in the chapel to assist you in relevant centering practices.  Why not give it a try for the season of Lent?  “Into Stillness” offers a sacred space for you to pray and meditate, to center yourself and bring balance to your life.  If you are looking for a way to go deeper in your prayer life, “Into Stillness” is the place for you.  We welcome you to join us for the Sundays in Lent.  “Into Stillness” may be just what you need to intentionally prepare for Easter this year.

Palm Sunday - 10:00 a.m. worship service will include our annual visit by residents of Peppermint Ridge. The youth will host a luncheon following worship.

Maundy Thursday – 7:00 p.m. -  we will offer a special theatrical production on Maundy Thursday in the Fellowship Hall.

Good Friday – 7:00 p.m. - participants will have the opportunity to walk the labyrinth and engage in a prayer circle where you can come, light candles and offer prayers for yourselves and loved ones.  Holy week is a time of deep personal and collective religious experience for Christians.

Easter Sunday –

  • 6:00 a.m. – Easter Sunrise Service – this will be a more meditative and reflective service as we greet Easter dawn on this morning of commemorating Christ’s resurrection. If you want to experience the joy of new light and new birth this is just the service for you. Communion will be served. This service will be held outside in the MHUCC Jackdaw Street courtyard.  Please dress for the chilly morning.
  • 10:00 a.m. – Festival Easter Worship – This is the most exciting worship service of the year as hymns are raised in joyful praise of new life in our Savior and in each one of us! Communion will also be served at this service.

Easter Lilies -

On Easter Sunday, we honor those living or passed who have made an impression in our lives with lilies.  Again this year you are invited to purchase and dedicate Easter lilies at a cost of $10 per lily. Lilies will adorn our sanctuary on Easter Sunday, March 31.  Honoree names will be printed in the Easter bulletin. The lily you purchase will then be yours to take home and enjoy after church on Easter Sunday.

Thanksgiving

Each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, all are invited to share in a church-wide Thanksgiving Lunch.  Turkeys, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and stuffing are provided, and the congregation is asked to share their favorite side dishes, salads, and desserts, potluck style.
