This group meets twice a month to share their spiritual walk
together. Through prayer, conversation, and support, a bond is
formed and strengthened over time. New members are accepted at
different times during the year. Sharon Peterson, a licensed
Spiritual Director and member of MHUCC leads this group.
Members and friends, aged 18-40ish, are welcome to come to any of
the young adult gatherings on the second and fourth Tuesday each
month at 7pm in the upstairs Community Room. There are also
various social events throughout the month at other locations,
including impromptu Sunday brunch. New members are always
welcome.
Join this group on the first Friday of each month for a potluck
dinner beginning at 6:30pm, a great film selection, and a discussion
of the theological implications (and more!) of the film. This
group is led by Pastor Scott. New members to this group are
always welcome.
MHUCC is happy to be part of this network of individuals
dedicated to crafting hope, healing, and peace one stitch at a time.
Shawls, blankets, scarves, caps, and dolls are created for
individuals and families in global areas of conflict. You
don’t have to know how to knit, crochet, or sew, or even be a woman,
to be a part of this group – just a willingness to help.
Knitting 4 Peace meets on the third Thursday of the month at the
church and new members are always welcome.
Do you like to sing? Our Chancel Choir will happily welcome
another voice. Rehearsals are Thursdays at 7:30pm.
Please contact our Director of Music, Max Chodos, for more
information.
For our young voices ages 6 through 14, our Children’s Choir has
a spot for you! Rehearsals are Sundays after worship in the
upstairs Choir Room. Please contact our Director of Music, Max
Chodos, for more information.
In addition to the many different educational opportunities at
MHUCC, we have an adult bible study group that meets every Sunday at
9 a.m. to study and dive deeper into the Bible. Currently, the
group is using the UCC’s “Weekly Seeds” series to study the
lectionary selections for each Sunday. This group is
facilitated by Marybeth Holliday and each class is led by a
volunteer. New members are always welcome.
On the second Monday of every month (with a break in the summer),
follow the sounds of laughter and sewing machines whirring and you
will find this group of volunteers in Fellowship Hall creating
beautiful quilts for veterans, shut-ins, and members and friends in
the hospital. Even if you don’t know how to sew, we will find
a job for you in the creation of these quilts. Material Aid
welcomes new members throughout the year.
The world has changed a great deal since the time this group first formed almost 100 years ago at what is now Mission Hills United Church of Christ. What has not changed is this group’s commitment to mission, spirituality, fellowship, and service. Awarding annual scholarships to members attending college, working with El Nido to provide an apartment, furniture, and household goods to a woman and her children who have escaped from a life of abuse, and hosting prayer breakfasts are just a few of the activities that this group sponsors.
